This morning I woke up to 4 glasses of water at my bedside table, the nurses and techs were diligent in bringing some every couple hours during the night, taking hydration very seriously to keep my amniotic fluid higher in volume. It is my 11th day in the hospital, the longest I have been apart from my daughter, Sonja. After shedding some tears in front of the nurses, they talked with the doctors and said that I would be allowed a 1/2 hour visit with my daughter in the lobby as long as she wasn't sick. My parents brought Sonja to the lobby and my husband drove down and we got a wheel chair from the nurses to bring me down to the lobby. Sonja ran up to Joel and then me and I couldn't resist picking her up even though my Mom tried to stop me. Tears rolled down my face and Sonja got quiet and touched her hand to my face. I told her I had been sad because I missed her so much but I was so happy to see her. My parents went to eat in the cafeteria and Joel, Sonja and I tried to cuddle up on one of the loveseats together. I fed Sonja a clementine, one piece at a time and we colored in her coloring book. She asked Papi to push her in the wheelchair and wanted to walk around the edge of the water fountain in the lobby. When my parents came back I asked them for some change cause Joel and I didn't have any on us and she threw change in the fountain with Papa. Joel took her home for the weekend and she seemed so happy to go home but was confused that Mommy wasn't coming with. My parents came up to visit for a couple hours and I filled my time finishing up my first post to the blog, coloring in adult coloring pages to decorate the nursery and texting friends. I can barely sit long enough to watch a 1/4 of a movie. I try and do laps around the floor for exercise after sitting for too long. This morning they had me do a 30 minute stress test simply because the doctor wanted to be more conservative instead of only doing them 2 days a week. The baby always shows good signs, has a baseline between 150-155 usually and shows good accelerations. The only meds I need to take now is Tylenol when my back pain flares up and Fexmid to try to elongate some pain relief through the night so I can get some sleep. The nurses come in every two hours to check me for pain and ask the same questions... any cramps, contractions, pain or swelling in legs, tenderness to my belly, dizziness or weakness, do I feel the baby moving? When a new nurse starts she does an examine, they check my lungs and inspect my tummy for tenderness or tightness and legs for swelling. They ask me about the quantity of my fluid. The tech comes in every 4 hours to take my blood pressure, temperature and pulse. Tonight I cut apart and started a calendar to mark progress with the baby and write notes about visitors and milestones. It's a good reminder that we are in this for the long haul.
